What personal data we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect the following categories of personal data.
Information you provide directly
- Through the enquiry form on our Donate page: your first and last name, email address and country, what you would like to do, your message if you write one, and whether you would like to receive our newsletter.
- Through the newsletter form on our homepage: your email address.
- Name, email address and phone number — for example when you contact us, register for a program or event, volunteer or donate.
- Messages you send us through our website, email, Facebook, Telegram or other channels.
Information collected automatically
- When you visit our website, the servers of our hosting provider record standard technical data — your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and your browser type — to deliver the website and keep it secure.
- Our website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking tools to follow your visit (see section 8).
- To protect our forms from spam, we use a short-lived, anonymized check based on your IP address. Your IP address is not stored with your enquiry or subscription.
Information from third-party platforms and partners
If you interact with us via Facebook, YouTube, TikTok or Telegram, we may receive information those platforms make available to page or channel owners, such as public profile name and engagement data. Those platforms have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read.
If you are introduced to us through one of our international charity partners — for example as a donor, sponsor or volunteer — we may receive your contact details and relevant information from that partner in order to communicate with you and manage the partnership or donation.
How we use your personal data
We use your personal data to:
- Provide and deliver our services, programs and communications.
- Respond to your inquiries and communicate with you.
- Send updates, newsletters or announcements you have agreed to receive.
- Manage event registrations, volunteer participation and donations.
- Improve our website, content and activities.
- Comply with legal obligations under Cambodian law.
We will only use your personal data for the purposes described above, or for purposes compatible with them. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Legal basis for processing
Where applicable, we process your personal data on the following bases.
where you have agreed, for example when you send an enquiry or subscribe to our newsletter. You may withdraw consent at any time.
where processing is necessary to provide a service, program or activity you have requested or registered for.
where we are required to retain or disclose data under Cambodian law.
for purposes such as improving our services and securing our website, provided your rights are not overridden.
Sharing and disclosure of personal data
We may share your personal data with:
- Service providers who support our operations, such as our web hosting and email providers, under obligations of confidentiality.
- Social media and content platforms such as Meta/Facebook and Google/YouTube, when you interact with our content on those platforms.
- International charity partners and donors who support our programs, for purposes such as donation processing, sponsorship management and program reporting. Reports shared with partners are provided in aggregated or anonymized form unless you have given consent otherwise, and any personal data shared is limited to what is necessary for the partnership.
- Government authorities where disclosure is required by Cambodian law or a lawful order.
Enquiries sent through our website are received by the FLO team, as well as by Pascale Vayer, Chair of our partner organization kleine herzen, who assists donors in Europe, and Matt Baker, Chair of our partner organization Little Acorns, who assists donors in the UK.
Some of our service providers may be located outside Cambodia. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected to a standard consistent with this policy.
Donations and payments
Our website does not take payments, and it never asks for card or bank details.
If you choose to donate through kleine herzen (Austria) or Little Acorns (United Kingdom), you are taken to their websites. They process your donation and your personal data under their own privacy policies.
If you give to FLO directly — for example by PayPal or by a transfer arranged with us — the payment provider or bank processes the payment, and we receive the details needed to record and acknowledge your gift, such as your name, email address and the amount.
Data retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, to provide our services, or to comply with legal, accounting or reporting requirements. When personal data is no longer needed, we delete it or anonymize it securely.
- Enquiries sent through our website — kept as long as we need them to reply and to manage your support, and deleted at the latest two years after our last contact with you, unless we must keep them longer by law.
- Newsletter addresses — kept until you unsubscribe.
- Records of donations — kept as long as accounting and legal rules require.
Cookies and analytics
Our website does not set cookies for visitors, and it does not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools such as Google Analytics or Meta Pixel.
Fonts and images are served from our own website, so your visit is not shared with font or image providers. Cookies are used only for authorized staff who log in to manage the website.
YouTube videos and the map connect to outside services only when you use them, as described in sections 9 and 10.
Videos
Our videos are hosted on YouTube, a service of Google. Until you press Play, nothing is loaded from YouTube: the preview image comes from our own website.
When you press Play, the video loads from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). To play the video, the player also connects to other Google services: google.com, googleapis.com, gstatic.com, googlevideo.com, ytimg.com and ggpht.com. From that moment, Google receives your IP address and information about your device and may store information on your device, in line with Google’s privacy policy.
Links to our YouTube channel take you to YouTube only when you click them.
Maps
Our website shows the location of our two centers on a map from OpenStreetMap. The map loads only once you start using the page and the map comes into view — for example when you scroll down to it. When it loads, your browser connects to the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which receive your IP address in order to deliver the map. We have no influence over this processing.
Until the map loads, you see the addresses of our centers instead. The “Open in Google Maps” links take you to Google Maps only if you click them.
Your rights
Subject to applicable Cambodian law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your personal data where there is no legal reason for us to keep it.
- Withdraw consent to communications or other consent-based processing at any time.
- Object to or restrict certain processing of your data.
- Unsubscribe from newsletters or updates at any time, using the link in each message or by contacting us directly.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at futurelightorganization[at]gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and, where legally required, within the timelines set by applicable law.
Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, loss, misuse or alteration. These include secure hosting, an encrypted connection (HTTPS), access controls, and limiting data access to those who need it to perform their duties. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
We take special care when our programs involve children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 through our website or online channels without the consent of a parent or guardian. Where our programs or activities involve minors, we collect only the information necessary for participation and safeguarding, with appropriate parental or guardian consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data without such consent, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Third-party links
Our website and content may contain links to third-party websites or platforms, including the websites of our international charity partners. These links are provided for your convenience and information. Once you leave our website, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. Each partner and third-party website has its own privacy policy, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any website you visit through a link on our site.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes in Cambodian law. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date. Significant changes will be communicated through our website or communication channels where appropriate.
